Thanks for the heads-up. I was wondering about lighting as (even with the short stints of darkness) you seemed to be cracking on at all hours.

Fabulous effort BTW. Truly inspirational

Exactly... I did think of Fiennes when I was writing that. There are always some things you need full dexterity for, but reducing them means happier hands, less risk, and less time spent waiting for the feeling to come back.

Ranulph Fiennes was on the telly the other day, he'd gotten frost bite from taking his gloves off for two minutes to fiddle with his ski bindings. He had an undiagnosed circulatory problem in one hand, so two minutes was all it took even though he felt warm. Anything to keeps your mits on has to be good!

Hi Jamie,

Sorry for the massive delay in replying. No-one finished EWE in 2012! We all made it about 1/2 way.

My intention is to make it a bit easier (realistically, better - less bogs and pushing) for 2013.

Hi Ashley,

Before I rode the Divide, doing 100+ miles a day seemed absolutely crazy, but the dirt roads out there are much easier going than normal UK riding so you might do more than you expect.

I certainly wouldn't think of doing both the Divide and EWE in the same year. In my experience of last year, EWE was much harder than the Divide.

Short-travel full suspension would probably be "ideal" but I rode fully rigid, so whatever bike you fancy will do the job.

Hope to catch up with you all this summer: great site,
